Please accept my apologies for not receiving the last two blogs of 2023 from “A Catholic Deacon’s Perspective” for the 33rd Week in Ordinary Time and Jesus Christ, King of the Universe in a timely manner. We have taken measures to rectify the system problems and hope future blogs will be uninterrupted and received on time. Any prayer you want to insure that would be greatly appreciated.
In 2020, as an outgrowth of
the Covid-10 Pandemic, I started my blog entitled “A Catholic Deacon’s Perspective.”
The idea behind it was to take the Gospels and readings for all the
Sundays in the “A,” “B” and “C” cycles and write a combination of personal
experiences in tandem with commentaries on New Testament and Hebrew Scriptures
presentations using the New American Bible.
With the last Sunday of Cycle “A”
on November 26, the three years have been completed and are archived for your
personal input. The reason for this body
of work is based on studying the purpose for which God created us, discovering what
gifts we have to fulfill that purpose and how we will use this to do God’s work
on earth as His disciple.
Beginning on January 1, 2024,
I plan to write a perspective on various parts of the Bible, Old and New
Testaments, as well as theological aspects of our Roman Catholic faith from
both personal experience and as presented in the Catechism of our Church. Unlike the Sunday blogs which focused
primarily on the Gospels and readings for those Sundays, I am looking for input
from you, as subscribers, as to how your faith journey works in your life. What are you doing to enhance not only personal
aspects of your life, but in helping others grow in their walk?
In essence, are you living up
to your Baptismal promises of loving God with your whole heart, mind, soul and
strength and all He created as Jesus loves us by His death, Resurrection and
Ascension in opening the Gates of Eternal life.
“A
Catholic Deacon’s Perspective” needs to branch out from what
Scripture teaches us as was written about from 2020 through 2023 to how we are
actually practicing our faith for our eternal salvation as well as for those
who are still searching and need help.
To help make this successful,
I am asking for your comments not on only what is written, but with your
perspective so all of us can learn what God teaches, what we absorb and how
that is taken into the streets so to speak for relatives, friends, neighbors,
fellow worshippers, strangers and those in need.
In other words, we are talking
about stepping outside of our comfort zone to do God’s work. For those who do this already, you should
have some rich stories with all kinds of outcomes that are ripe with feedback
and ongoing examples from which to learn.
It is a challenge I would hope
you would relish accepting and sharing to help us grow in our faith so that all
of us receive an opportunity to live with God for all eternity.
Please look for this new phase
of “A Catholic Deacon’s Perspective”
to start January 1, 2024.
In the meantime, if you want
to reach out to me about this letter and its contents, please address your
e-mails to me, Deacon Jim Merle, at dcn_jim@yahoo.com. I am excited to hear from you with all your
ideas of how to make our faith journey a walk we will never forget or regret
for the rest of our lives.
God Bless,
Deacon Jim
